Castle Jezeří

Jezeří Castle

The original medieval castle situated on a high promontory jutting out from the Krušné hory massif was rebuilt in the 16th century into a Renaissance chateau, which gained Lobkowicz family. From the castle interiors is especially interessting the large oval hall later modified into the castle theater and the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows with stucco decorations from the 19th century. At the beginning of the 18th century an original garden was added to the castle. In the garden there was also a unique arboretum with many types of exotic woods. In the 19th century the castle became an important cultural center, frequented mainly by musicians. In the second half of the 20th century the luxurious residence of the Lobkowicz family was  heavily damaged as a result of advancing coal mining so that at the end of the 80th, the castle was one of most bady damageged monuments in the country. At the end of 90th started work on the restoration of the former "Pearl of the Krusne hory Mountains". Currently is available for visitors only a small part of this large building, but due to the uneasy and special conditions a unique and impressive experience.
