Dominating the town of Duchcov is a Baroque chateau with Neoclassical modifications from the early 19th century. Undoubtedly, the greatest attraction are the rooms where the famous lover and seducer of women, G. Casanova, lived and died, who, as the Wallenstein librarian, spent the last thirteen years of his life at the Duchcov chateau.
The Baroque Chapel of St. Barbara is located in a former cemetery opposite Barbora Pond.
Next to the entrance door is a tombstone of Giacomo Casanova, who was likely buried here.
Casanova’s remains were never found, despite many attempts. An important clue in the search for his body was his height, which was truly exceptional for that era.
Casanova measured a remarkable 191 cm. Thus, the only memento of his grave remains a plaque affixed to the chapel. Around the chapel, there are also gravestones of other notable figures, and behind the chapel, you will find a statue of St. John of Nepomuk.
The Art Nouveau church of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church is beautifully situated by Barbora Pond. You can ascend its 42-meter-high tower from June to the end of September. You’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Duchcov and the surrounding landscape.
From a gentle rise behind the town of Duchcov, a unique panoramic view unfolds, encompassing the České středohoří (Bohemian Central Highlands), with Milešovka and the Bořeň rock formation on one side, and the peaks of the Krušné hory (Ore Mountains) on the other.
The viewpoint is situated on the edge of the Bílina opencast mine and serves as a prime example of the local reclaimed landscape.
An extensive complex of buildings founded at the end of the 12th century. Masters of Baroque art, such as Václav Vavřinec Reiner, Jan Kryštof Liška, and other leading artists, contributed to the decoration of the church and monastery. For centuries, the monastery was a significant center of culture and learning.
This extensive castle ruin, dating back to the first half of the 13th century, rises majestically on a promontory above the town of Osek. The castle is freely accessible, and an educational trail leads to it, featuring information boards that delve into not only the castle’s history but also its fascinating surroundings.
